Writing

Started a Substack, finally.

Hey, I started a Substack finally, after planning on doing so for about five or six months. Link in my social button.

So I go over all this on the Substack post, my first one, but basically, I’m using this Substack as a catchall. You know like that weird drawer full of seeming junk until you really need that AAA battery. I’m joking, I’m not going to put literal trash there, I will probably just put some essays and fiction that don’t fit anywhere on the stack. I also will talk about things I find interesting that don’t relate directly to me. I will still be doing this blog, and talking about my work and the creative process here. All major announcements will be on both Substack and this blog, as well as spread across normal social media. So the substack will be a cool way to hear extra songs, read fiction not available anywhere else that I have written and other goodies along the way! I hope you will consider subscribing. See you on the other side <3

I've been sick... and other current events

I’ve been pretty sick since the end of February. I didn’t really start to feel better until the beginning of this month. I even had to go to the hospital, so no really creative stuff got done. I was hoping to do Camp Nano this month but it didn’t end up happening. I decided after all that, that I would take a small break from the editing I was doing on the novel I finished last Summer. I will talk a little about what my plans are for the upcoming months in this post.

NaNOWriMo Results!!

I won NANO this year, I ended up with about 52,000 words on my draft of my Dark Academia YA Thriller. It was a crazy month but I achieved my goal. I have continued to write even after hitting my goal, but I’m not going at such a feverish pace anymore. I am especially proud of myself because I have had such limited time to write and I still made it! I think I’m going to try to finish the first draft by August 2022. I still have another book that is heading into its second draft to work on, I plan on working on that in late winter or early spring.

I have really fallen in love with the characters I’ve been writing about, but I do find I’m at a place that has been a little more difficult to write. I also see there are some plot inconsistencies that need to be worked through. But I think overall this draft is much smoother than the one I wrote this summer. That draft needs a lot of help. A TON OF HELP! I feel like the pacing is better in my Nano project too, so I’m hoping that by practicing so much I’m learning a lot!

I am also selling physical signed copies of the book I released in October, Sugar High Angels. If you are interested in buying a signed copy it is available here. If you want a personal message just send a message after purchase. Of course, the book is also still available in all the normal spaces online. I am very happy with the feedback I have gotten from this book and the support has been beyond what I ever could have imagined. Overall things have been going pretty well in the writing sphere.

BOOK RELEASE! 10-31-21

Sugar High Angels

By Aisling Black

RELEASING:

OCTOBER 31st 2021

My new book is coming out on October 31st this year! I am very excited to release this to the world. I wrote this book after being inspired by Rachel Oates Poetry discussion videos. I don’t know if this is really a poetry book though, but I guess that’s the closest definition it fits into. I do mostly free verse and micro-stories, but there are some journal entries and haiku.

The main themes of this collection are mental illness and memories. I wanted to write a book where I describe some of the symptoms and hallucinations I have been through having schizoaffective disorder. I really hope though that the words work for many types of people. I wanted to be open about some of my symptoms to kind of normalize talking about the more strange or uncomfortable things I have been through. I also wanted to tie in memories that really left a mark on me. If you chose to support me I cannot thank you enough, and please leave a review, even if it is a bad review! I’ve got some other projects coming up, but mostly I will be working on my NANO project for the rest of 2021.

Have a nice day!
